Alice E. Powell

Muncie - Alice E. (Workheiser) Powell, 95, of Muncie, formerly of Collison went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday December 11, 2016 at 12:20 PM in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL surrounded by family. Alice was born on April 28, 1921 the daughter of William S. and Margaret E. (Harbaugh) Workheiser. She married George E. Powell on May 23, 1939 in Danville, IL and he preceded her in death on February 11, 1966. Alice is survived by her children, Connie (Harold) Williams of Clermont, IN, Rita (Wayne) Howard of Fithian, IL, Kenneth (Carol) Powell of Potomac, IL, William (Teresa) Powell of Harlem, GA, Karen (Larry) Jones of Danville, IL and Ronald (Lisa) Powell of Fithian, IL. She is also survived by a sister- in-law, Lula Powell of Tilton, IL, 16 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren, and 13 Great Great-Grandchildren. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Powell, Sr., one son, George "Mike" Powell, Jr., a granddaughter, Melissa Powell, great grandsons, Tom Powell, Jr. and Nathaniel Jones. Alice was a lifetime member of the Collison United Methodist Church in Collison and currently worshiping at the Muncie Baptist Church in Muncie, IL. She attended Red Oak School and Armstrong Township High School. She and her husband, George, farmed in the Collison area along with raising their 7 children. She enjoyed spending her free time rocking in her favorite rocker, working puzzles, quilting and embroidery work, watching the birds feed in her many bird feeders, eating at Henk's Caf as well as watching her TV programs of Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. In her younger years, she enjoyed taking bus tour trips and loved to travel. Most of all, Alice thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday December 16, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL. Pastor Dave Garver will officiate. Burial will be in Collison Cemetery in Collison, IL. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday December 15, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Collison United Methodist Church or the Muncie Baptist Church.
