Alfred H. "Bud" Courson age 81 of Danville Passed away at 5:46 pm Tuesday August 24, 2004 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. He was born June 23, 1923 in Danville the son of Sim E. and Nora Belle Adkins Courson. He had married Ara Leita Carpenter on November 28, 1946 in Danville; she preceded him October 4, 1999. Surviving are four brothers; Clide Courson of Columbus IN, Carl Courson of Danville, James Courson of San Gabriel, CA, Robert Courson of Danville, two sisters; Eunice Dixon of Foster IN, Dora Lee McCollough of Neenach Ca., Also several Nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his Parents Three bothers Walter, Arlo, and Leroy Courson, and one sister Aleta Rand. Bud had attended Danville schools and Utterback & Brown Business College and had graduated from University of Southern IL School of Banking in Carbondale IL. Bud had served in the US Navy during WWII; he had spent several months on the Aircraft training carrier USS Wolverine and was discharged April 1, 1946. Bud was a Banker and started working as a bookkeeper with palmer American National Bank in 1947. During his career he served as a teller, Auditing-Commercial loan officer, and manager of Palmer American National Bank-East Facility. Bud also served as president of Vermilion County Bankers Association and president of East Central Illinois Banking Association. In his early years he enjoyed working and holding office with Danville Junior Chamber of Commerce and Danville Business Men's Club. He was a member of ST James United Methodist Church in Danville. Bud was a Mason with Olive Branch Lodge and Danville Consistory, former member of Vermilion Hills Country Club and Elks lodge #332. After he and his wife retired in 1988 they both enjoyed operating their Family business Known as Coursons Grocery and Hardware on the corner of Gilbert and Fairchild until October 4, 1999 When his wife passed away and then Bud Finalized the sale of the business and grounds to Osco Drug in December of 1999.
