Alexander “Alex” Baker, 67, of Danville passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Alex was born October 11, 1946 in Danville, the son of Joseph E. and Bernice M. (Hughes) Baker. He married Peggy Wolfe on July 8, 1972 in Danville. Alex was a member of Central Park Church of Christ. For 35 years, Alex was the Voice of District 118, working as the switchboard operator and jack of all trades for the Danville School District. He was a diehard NASCAR fan, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. being his favorite driver. He also was a big movie buff, enjoyed gardening, and listening to Reba. Alex has a special place in his heart for his two cats, Precious and Pixie. Alex is survived by his wife of 42 years, Peggy (Wolfe) Baker of Danville; his mother, Bernice Baker of Tilton; a sister, Kathie Borst of Tilton; uncle, Leroy Baker; two aunts, Donna Hughes and Gayle Baker; niece, Dana (Eric) Burress of Tilton; nephew, Jason (Ashley) Borst of Danville; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Baker; a nephew, Steven Borst; a brother-in-law, Randy Borst; and his mother and father-in-law, Jake and Betty Wolfe. A memorial service to celebrate Alexs life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 25th at Central Park Church of Christ. Pastor Wade Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Central Park Church of Christ and Vermilion County Animal Shelter. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville.
