Aleta E. Hicks, 70, of Oakwood, IL, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly while surrounded by loving family on the evening of Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Carle Hospital in Champaign, IL. Aleta was born on November 29, 1947, in Danville, IL, to Kenneth and Claudia Hatton. She was the oldest of 4 children. She married Larry Hicks on December 10, 1977, in Oakwood, IL, in a snowstorm. Aleta worked for many years. She spent some of her working years at Sutton's Root Beer Stand, R & S Printing, Oakwood IGA, and banking. She also spent a few years working as a caregiver. She especially enjoyed helping and caring for others. Aleta loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, keeping track of recipes to pass on to others, and talking on the phone to friends and family. She liked riding the motorcycle with her husband, camping, and watching movies. She looked forward to her yearly trips to Colorado. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandkids. Aleta was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving family include her husband; two daughters, Jeannie (Ed) Martin, Springfield, IL, Julie (Jeff) Elmore, Cedar Falls, IA; one son, Dustin (Hanea) Hicks, Fithian, IL; one brother, Randy (Nancy) Hatton, Danville, IL; two sisters, Karen (Ben) Dukes, Kingman, IN, Gail Chrisman, State Line , IN; 7 grandchildren, Ashley (Lance) Luginbill, Jared (Jane) Martin, Amanda Martin, Donovan and Corbin Elmore, Harper and Miles Hicks ; 2 great grandchildren, Adalyn and Logan Luginbill. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 29, from 4-7pm with a memorial service following at Sunset's Oakwood Funeral Chapel 105 E. South Main St. Oakwood, IL.
