Alena Penninger, 83, of Georgetown, passed away at 8:58pm, Saturday, September 27th, 2008, at Provena USMC, Danville. She was born on January 23rd, 1925, in Georgetown the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Biggs) Sheppard. She was wed to Burley Penninger in Portsmouth, Virginia, on December 9, 1944. He survives. Other survivors include: her son, Michael Penninger of Huntsville, AL; her daughter, Penny (Jack) Sweeney of Carmel, IN; her grandchildren, Michael Trey Penninger of Jupiter, FL, Alyse Penninger of Jupiter, FL, Derick Young of Indianapolis, IN, and Chris Sweeney of Indianapolis, IN; and her sister, Norma (Jack) Scott of Rochester, IL. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her son, Larry; her brother, Charles; and her four sisters, Ruth, Betty, Dorothy, & Sarah. Alena worked for Western Auto in Westville for 20 years. She enjoyed ceramics, needle point, painting, and collecting dolls. She also enjoyed dinning out. She loved her dog, Heidi. A celebration of Alenas life will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, October 3, 2008, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1pm to 2pm. Pastor James Blue will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. Memorial donations for Alena may be given in her name to American Cancer Society. Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
