WESTVILLE - Alberta Godelausky Stefaniak passed away on Monday evening, April 2, 2007. She had been a resident of Hawthorne Nursing Home the past year. Alberta was born in Westville, Illinois January 16, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Susknosis) Godelausky and was a resident of Westville her entire life. She was a graduate of Westville High School in 1937. She married Eugene (Butch) Stefaniak on September 13, 1941 at St. Marys Church in Westville. He preceded her in death in 1999. Alberta and Butch had two sons, Gene of Lexington KY, married to Karen Frankino and Richard of Westville, married to Karen Hamilton. They had six grandchildren, Gene Jr., Thomas, Sarah, Allison, Kaitlyn and Grace, and one great grandson, Andrew. Alberta was preceded in death by her five brothers, Walter I, Charles, Joseph, Peter and Walter II, her parents, and a grandson John. Alberta retired from General Electric in Danville in 1980 after 25 years of service. In her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling, walking, golfing, knitting, crocheting, sewing, crafts and bingo. Her children and grandchildren each have a handmade quilt by which to cherish her memory. And her dedication to the Westville Walkers Club late into her life will be remembered by her loyal friends. Butch and Alberta enjoyed traveling and visited every state including Alaska and Hawaii. Her civic and volunteer activities kept her busy over the years. Alberta volunteered with United Samaritans Medical Center, St. Marys School and CRIS Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Westville American Legion Auxiliary, YWCA, CRIS, Senior Spirit and the St. Marys Altar & Rosary Society. She was a founding member of the Westville Home Extension group and served as president for two years. She served on the Westville Library Board for two years. Alberta requested that friends wishing to remember her may donate in her memory to St. Marys School in Westville. Visitation is 4-8 pm, with a Rosary at 7 pm, Monday, April 9 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel at 414 S. State St. in Westville. A Funeral Mass for Alberta will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, April 10 at St. Marys Church in Westville. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com .
