Albert R. "Woody" Woodford, 85, of Danville, Illinois passed away at his home on Thursday, June 30th. He was born to Benjamin and Eugenia Johnson on November 4, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland. At age 17 he joined the Army Air Forces (which is now the US Air Force) and proudly served his country for 27 years. In 1957, while stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, he married Wilma Jones of Westville, Illinois who preceded him in death in January 2000. After Wilma's passing he married Bertha Asmar who passed in April 2011. Albert is survived by four sons: William (Vickie) Woodford of North Carolina, Thomas (Jamie) Woodford of Washington, Edward (Debbie) Woodford of Idaho and Robert (Susan) Asmar of Bloomington, Illinois, Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Benjamin, Rachel, Michael, Rebecca (Carter) Matherly, Stephanie, Cassie (Mike) Button, Sydney Barek, Megan (Josh) Cook, Christopher Asmar and Tyler Asmar, 11 great grandchildren and his special friend Carol Sermersheim. While serving in the Air Force Woody and his family lived in many places, including England for three years. After retiring from the military he worked at Danville Metal Stamping for 20 years. He was a great fisherman and enjoyed his camp site in Olney, Illinois for many years. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Jamaica. Woody loved to visit his friends at the Knights of Columbus club. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 51 of Westville, the Air Force Sergeants Association and Wabash Valley Gourmet Club. Woody loved being a husband, father and grandfather. His family always came first in his life and he treasured his time with them. The Woodford Family thanks the caring staff at Presence Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. A Celebration of Woody's life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the funeral home. Per Albert's wishes there will be a private burial at Sunset Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Wilma. Memorials may be made in Woody's name to American Legion Post 51 in Westville, Illinois, the Knights of Columbus in Danville, Illinois or St Jude's Hospital for Children.
