ALBERT DOW POWELL Albert Dow Powell, 84, of Danville, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Albert was born on March 29, 1923 in Blount Township, the son of Isaac and Millie (Marrow) Powell. He married Martha Bloomfield on August 7, 1949 at the Vermilion Chapel in Kennekuk Park. She survives. He is also survived by his two sons- Phillip Powell of Water Valley, Mississippi and Tim ( Karen) Powell of Williamsport, Indiana; three daughters- Kathy (Larry) Fox of Hammond, Indiana, Karen (John) Jaggers of Westville, Illinois, and Barbara (Steve) Redenbaugh of Stateline, Indiana; two brothers- Delmar (Margaret) Powell of Danville and Gene (Betty) Powell of Covington, Indiana; three sisters- Mary June Kochell, Betty June (Bob) Ervin, and Beveline Danner all of Danville; fourteen grandchildren- John (Stacey) Loden of Perrysville, Indiana, Angela (Fox of Hammond, Indiana, April (Roy) Young, Eric Powell, Amber Powell, Anthony Powell all of Water Valley, Mississippi, Tom (Jodi) Powell of Williamsport, Indiana, Billie Jo Plunkett of Veedersburg, Indiana, Candi (Casey) Miller of Williamsport, Indiana, Jodi (John) Brant of Westville, Illinois, Christal Jaggers of Catlin, Illinois, Shannon (Eric) Farnsworth of Bismarck, Illinois, Sean Redenbaugh of Evansville, Indiana, and Timothy Redenbaugh of Bismarck, Illinois; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, one son- Stanley Albert Powell, one granddaughter- Julie Loden, two-brothers- Robert and Palmer Powell, and two sisters- Louise Wallace and Naomi Wehmeyer. Albert attended Henning High School. He was one of the last remaining members of the Bunker Hill Bombers of the Bunker Hill Grade School. Albert was born and raised in the Kennekuk Park area. He joined the United States Army in 1942 and served in Germany, France, and England during WWII. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged from the Army in 1946. Albert worked for several years as a custodian for Danville High School and for the State Highway Department. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Nazarene Church. Albert has been a member of the Masons since the 1960s. He loved playing cards, especially euchre with his sister-in-law. He enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiling, and playing horseshoes. He was very proud of traveling all of the 50 states with his family. He loved to be around his family and will be greatly missed. A Celebration of the Life of Albert Dow Powell will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 " 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Blount Township.
