Alan B. Carter, 79, of Danville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville.
He was born February 20, 1945, in Danville, Illinois, son of the late Edward and Lucille (Foster) Carter.
Alan married Marianne Dwiggins on May 6, 1978, in Danville, Illinois, and she survives.
Also surviving are his children: Stacy (Derek) Edwardson and Troy (Emily) Carter; his grandchildren: Gracie and Mia Edwardson; and Ellie, Indie and Cannon Carter; his sisters: Eva Carter, Shirley Leibach, Judy (Irvin) Story and Sally (Mike) Motenko; along with many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by the Bryant family, where he was a proud “honorary member.”
Along with his parents, Alan was preceded in death by two sisters: Pat Wilson and Sona Hubartt; and one brother: Bill Carter.
Alan was a 1963 graduate of Bismarck High School. He worked in sales for several years at Schick School and Office Supply before retiring. Alan had a passion for sports, and in his younger years enjoyed playing basketball and softball. Many would say that he had a “love-hate relationship” with the Fighting Illini. The entire house knew when the game was on as Alan could be heard cheering them on as they were winning, or yelling at them when they were losing. Alan also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees. Alan played a major role in the construction of Second Church of Christ and was a faithful member there for many years to follow. Most of all, Alan loved spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life for Alan will take place at 1PM on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Second Church of Christ 3350 East Voorhees Street Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Tracy Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be from 5PM-7PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street in Danville, Illinois, and one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
