Danville- Alan Andrew Ringoen, 65, of Danville passed away at 6:43 AM on Friday, August 31, 2012 at his home. He was born on October 11, 1946 in Worcester, MA to Andrew T. and Frances Gertrude Giles Ringoen. Surviving is a brother-in-law Charles F. Dyer, Jr. of Danville; niece Karen L. Gastrau; nephews Charles W. Dyer and Kenneth A. Dyer; cousin Theodore Crommet; and an uncle Alfred Crommet. He was preceded in death by his parents, a cousin David Crommet, an aunt Betty Jane Crommet, and four uncles, George, Walter, Gordon, and Leonard Giles. During his youth, Alan attended Highland Street Lutheran Church where he served as an acolyte and was an active member of the Luther League Youth Group. He was confirmed in October of 1960 and was a graduate of Worcester North High School in Worcester, MA in June of 1964. Following High School, Alan attended college at the University of Massachusets at Amherst, MA and graduated with a B.A. in October of 1968. On October 21, 1968 he served his country by entering into the United States Army in which he served from 1968-1971. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having fought from 1970-1971. Alan had been employed as a Milk Inspector in Albany, NY. He enjoyed walking and was interested in science, astronomy, and aeronautics and often went to the library to learn about these topics. A service to celebrate the life of Alan Ringoen will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Danville. Pastor Ed Stone will officiate. Burial will take place at Danville National Cemetery at a later time. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Saturday, also at Bethel Lutheran Church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church or the VA Illiana Health Care Systems.
