Agota "Agnes" Mockaitis, 88, of Georgetown passed away Sunday evening at her daughter's home in Iowa City. She was born on February 4, 1916 in Sintautu, Lithuania the daughter of Joseph and Agota Kalvaitis. She married John Mockaitis on February 20, 1939 in Sintautu, Lithuania. He preceded her in death on December 11, 1996. Agnes's beloved family includes: her three children, Zig (Suzanne) Mockaitis of Georgetown, Vic (Janet) Mockaitis of Decatur, and Mary (Kevin) Watkins of Iowa City, IA. A daughter in law Janis Mockaitis of Danville. Nine grandchildren; Molly (Josh) Isenberg, Jane and Julie Mockaitis, David and Peter Mockaitis, Vicki (Ken) Dabrowka, Jeff (Connie) Mockaitis and Mike and Julie Watkins. Two great grandchildren, Margo Isenberg and Delaney Dabrowka. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, one son John Mockaitis Jr. and five brothers. A defining part of Agnes's life was her Lithuanian heritage. John, Agnes, and their three sons arrived in the U.S. in May 1949 after escaping Nazi troops in Lithuania. With the help of Catholic relief services and the Thomas Mullin family, they immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Creston Iowa, where they worked on a farm. Labor Day, 1950 found the Mockaitis family in Georgetown, IL. In 1958, a daughter was born into the family. Agnes enjoyed keeping in touch with their Lithuanian friends and family around the country and the world, especially her sister in law Stepha Kalvaitis of Hamilton, Ontario, a niece, Aldona Kalvaitis of Ormand Beach, FL and the Miksys family of Lemont, IL. Agnes enjoyed gardening, crocheting, church, and her family.
