A. Floyd Benson

Danville Arvid Edwin Floyd Benson, 88, of Danville passed away at 12:57 PM on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville. He was born on March 31, 1933 in Paxton, IL to Axel and Esther (Nelson) Benson. He married Donna Marie Jennings on August 12, 1953 in Danville. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2020.

He is survived by his three children, Steven (Mickie) Benson of Danville, Diane Bowers of Danville, and Eric Benson of Georgia; 9 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Estes.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Helen, Irene, Lorene, and Everett.

Floyd proudly served his country as a US Marine from 1951-1953 aboard the USS Leyte. He later joined Local #143 in 1967 where he worked as a cement finisher. He enjoyed raising Hereford Cattle as well as chickens and other beloved birds. Floyd loved being outdoors and working with the soil. He could often be found on his tractor or tending to his garden, fruit trees, and flowers. Floyd also loved deer hunting and fishing, making his annual fall trip to Colorado. He and his wife Donna lived in their home for 45 years, which Floyd built himself.

He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express special thanks to Theresa who was his home helper.

A graveside service to celebrate the life of A. Floyd Benson will be held at 10 AM on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Danville. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements. Donations in his name may be made to one of the organizations Floyd supported, St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, or the Paralyzed Veterans Association.
